Today, we went for our first post-natal checkup, all by ourselves (without confinement aunti).

The visit to gynae is smooth and swift. Though there is a queue waiting to see Dr Wong, we were given priority as we have a newborn baby with us. However, we do need to pay $85 for the visit as this post-natal checkup is not part of the package that we had signed up with the clinic.

But the appointment with Evelyn's paediatrian Dr Ong's was very upsetting. Firstly, the clinic was very crowded when we reached. The nurse has reassured us that priority will be given to newborns, and told us to wait in the nursing room. After half an hour, its still not our turn. We asked the nurse, and her response was "What? Havent you see the doctor yet?" Just to be safe, we decided to wait in the main waiting area, so that we will not be forgotten again.

As Evelyn has jaundice, she needed a blood test to determine the level of bilirubin. We were told that result will be available soon after lunch. If the result exceeded an index of 14, she would need to be admitted for treatment. At 3.30pm, there is still nothing from the clinic. Before we left TMC (after seeing gynae), I called the clinic and was shocked when they said the blood sample has just been send to the lab, and result will only be out in another hour!

So, we only received call from clinic after we reached home. The bilirubin index for Evelyn is 15.2, and she need to be admitted. We frecked out on the thought that we need to travel back to TMC. It had been really tiring to travel half of Singapore to Novena and Thomson.

Anyway, after much thought, we decided to checkout the treatment proceduce and room-in pricing with KKH. At KKH A&E, Evelyn was put through another blood test for bilirubin level. It was heart-wrenching to hear her cry. Surprisingly, result was out within 15mins, and we were told that her bilirubin level is not high enough to justify for her admission in KKH. After much clarification, we learnt that actually different hospitals have different admission criteria for jaundice treatment. So, we were sent home and told to observe her for a few more days. The doctor advised us that we should have blood test done at polyclinic before coming to hospital.

Anyway, thanks to god we can go home, and need to be hospitalized. We were really dead tired traveling to and fro hospitals, and mentally-stress up with Evelyn's condition.
